People who drank a bottle of tea fortified with green tea extract
every day for 3 months lost more body fat than those who drank a bottle
of regular tea. Researchers say the results indicates that substances
found in green tea known as catechins may trigger weight loss by
stimulating the body to burn calories and decreasing body fat. Am. J.

Data from the third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey
(NHANES) showed that obesity was associted with past-month depression in
women but was not significantly associated in men. Am. J. Epidemiol.
What time of the day and where cravings hit the hardest is important
to know in order to be able to deal with it. Cravings often arise from
emotions, so being aware of the connection between mind and body is an
important step. If you crave ice cream when you're feeling depressed, it
may be more beneficial to focus on the emotion than to dive into the
freezer. If you raid the vending machine at work when bored or tired,
its better to take a quick walk or call a friend instead.
Cravings can also be an attempt to supply the body with nutrients it
lacks. Carbohydrate cravings can simply be from hunger or heavy exercise
because too low blood sugar levels. It may also be a potential feedback
mechanism between carbohydrate and serotonin. Serotonin is a brain
neurotransmitter that some researchers hypothesize is involved in the
regulation of carbohydrate intake and is responsible for craving.
Determine what kinds of food you're craving and think of nutritious
options. If you crave sweets, try blueberries which are lower in
carbohydrates than other fruits and have a low glycemic impact. Or try a
sugar-free frozen treat, like the LucyPops in our recipe section!
